Investment Comittee

The final step in our funding decisions, after the VLF Evaluation Protocolâ„  analysis has been performed, involves a review of your claim by the VLF Investment Committee, an independent body comprised of distinguished professionals. With expertise in the risk management, legal, financial and insurance industries, the members of our Investment Committee have been selected on the basis of their recognized judgment and integrity. Their mandate is to provide unbiased, objective opinions regarding the suitability and prospects of commercial claims that we consider for financing. The members of our Investment Committee include:

Robert Chick

Mr. Chick has a long and distinguished business career. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Lawyers' Mutual Insurance Company, which provides professional liability insurance to attorneys in the state of California, and prior to his retirement he was President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Chick was also Chairman of the Board of Aurora National Life Assurance Company, and served as a member of the Board of Governors of the California Insurance Guarantee Association.

In addition to his business accomplishments, Mr. Chick has been involved in a number of important executive positions in government and community service organizations. He is a member of the Board of Administration of the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System, was President of the Board of the Los Angeles Airports Commissioners, and President of the Board of Transportation Commissioners for the City of Los Angeles.

Mr. Chick holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law from Oxford University as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.


Robert Currie

Mr. Currie, a retired partner of Latham & Watkins, was the former Managing Partner of that firm's Orange County office. A member of the firm since 1967, Mr. Currie was one of Latham & Watkins most experienced trial lawyers. He represented a broad range of clients, from local developers to national corporations, in both State and Federal Courts across the nation. His practice focused on complex litigation matters, including antitrust, securities actions, dealer termination and franchise actions, real property disputes, and shareholder dissolution actions. He is experienced in both State and Federal Courts (both jury and non-jury trials) and with various alternative dispute resolution procedures, including AAA and ICC arbitration.

Mr. Currie is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a former Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Council, a member of the Litigation and Antitrust Law Sections of the American Bar Association, and a member of the California and Orange County Bar Associations. He is also a former Director of the Orange County Constitutional Rights Foundation, a founding member of the Board of Governors of Amicus Publico, and a past founding member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.

After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1959, Mr. Currie served as a Naval Aviator and a Naval Intelligence Officer. He currently holds the rank of Captain, US Naval Reserves (Ret). Mr. Currie earned his L.L.B. from Harvard Law School in 1967.
